Faithless
Pop électro / UK
Faithless are "unique among dance acts in excelling at both high-octane club tracks and fully-rounded, satisfying eclectic albums" according to Q magazine and they are also one of the few dance acts that are at their best live on the big stage.
Faithless are the production duo of Rollo and Sister Bliss plus rapper Maxi Jazz and were formed as a group proper in 1995. Their debut album Reverence was released the following year and included the classic cuts Salvea Mea and Insomnia. Allmusic gave the release a rave review, commenting that "the songs are great, the beats are compelling, and it's almost impossible to not bounce around the room while listening". The stunning Insomnia filled dancefloors across the world and has been described by the BBC as "a song which celebrated not the euphoria on the dancefloor but warned of the shaking night-terrors that awaited you when you got back home, yet did so within a track that was an overwhelming sensory rush in itself."
The band released their second album Sunday 8pm in 1998 and it reached number 10 in the UK chart and included the eight-minute epic God is a DJ with its euphoric refrain "This is my church." Their third album Outrospective followed in 2001 and spawned the hit singles We Come 1, a UK number 3 single, and One Step Too Far, which featured the vocals of Rollo's sister Dido.
Their 2004 No Roots album has been widely acclaimed as their most complete album to date and give the band their first UK number one album. Leading music criticism site All Music Guide said: "Polished and purposeful, the tunes glide one to the next effortlessly, making this the most thought-out Faithless album yet".
To All New Arrivals, the band's fifth studio album, was released in November 2006 while new album The Dance will be released in May 2010. Away from the studio Faithless are a live and festival favourite with The Observer newspaper asserting: "As anyone who's ever seen Faithless live knows, there is no other band quite so able to transform an audience into a communal mass of true believers in a better world through disco." And the band will be bringing their full stage show to Caribana.
