Full Caribana 2011 line-up announced
Texas, Interpol, Hurts, Morcheeba, OMD, Plan B, Kool and the Gang to star at 21st edition of festival
Texas, Kool and the Gang, Morcheeba, Interpol, Hurts and Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark head the bill as the full line-up for the 21st edition of the Caribana Festival is announced.
The eclectic programme for the festival, which takes place at the picturesque setting of Crans-sur-Nyon from 8-12 June 2011, is packed with established stars and up and coming acts, international superstars and local favourites.
The event kicks off in style on Wednesday night with Scottish rockers Texas – making their long-awaited live return - and Canadian singer-songwriter sensation Justin Nozuka taking to the Grande Scène.
It is Ladies Night on the Scène du Lac, meanwhile. No, not an early appearance from Saturday headliners Kool and the Gang but the modern pop of adopted local Kirsty and the soulful folk rock of American next big thing Lissie. On the new-look scène de La Plage, Zurich singer-songwriter Marc Sway will showcase his chart-topping tunes.
Thursday night turns alternative with the dark indie rock of New York post-punk pioneers Interpol – making their sole Swiss summer festival date – the atmospheric synth pop of 2011 chart sensations Hurts and Australia’s Wolfmother with their contemporary take on classic rock.
Modern rock also pervades the Scène du Lac on the same night with Chicago’s Plain White T’s bringing their chart-topping pop-rock while Scottish acoustic quartet Kassidy return after their triumphant performance on the smaller scène de La Plage last year. Local artists are again not forgotten with Lausanne’s Favez on a high after just releasing arguably the best album of their long recording career.
The recently reunited electro trailblazers Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark and Britain’s top new male star, soul songster-meets-rapper Plan B, take to the main stage on Friday night along with the already announced Morcheeba, making a welcome turn to Caribana. Sweden’s latest electro stars Little Dragon are sure to show why they have already established themselves as live favourites on the Scène du Lac.
Summer Madness is guaranteed on Saturday night with funk legends Kool and the Gang set to make sure the festival ends on a high note. Caribana are also pleased to present reggae superstar Julian Marley and France’s most relevant urban artist Abd Al Malik, bringing a contrast of the contemporary and classic on the Grande Scène.
The Scène du Lac showcases two of the best modern singer-songwriters in Medi and Saint André as well as a highly-anticipated performance from UK electro-pop rising star I Blame Coco.
Finally, the Caribana festival would not be complete without Caribakids on Saturday 12 June, a day dedicated especially to children.
