Friday night review: Faithless, Micky Green, Oi Va Voi and more

A mixed of musical styles keeps the Caribana crowd satisfied

Main Stage

Faithless
Highlights:
The London dance pioneers turned Caribana into a collective dancefloor with hit after hit...Maxi Jazz, his toned torso belying his 52 years, whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his smooth vocal delivery, intoning "This is my church" in a insistent version of "God is a DJ", accompanied by a brilliant light show...Guest vocalist Harry Collier, formerly from the late-lamented Kubb, added an extra dimension in Feel the Pain...Faithless delivered a remixed version of their smash hit Insomnia surprisingly early in the Sister Bliss produced an ecstatic reaction from the Crans crowd when he bashed out the signature keyboard chords.
In a tweet: A stunning return to Caribana for the band dubbed the Rolling Stones of dance music.

Micky Green
Highlights:
The former model with the engaging stage presence won over the crowd early with her recent hit TL...A faithful cover of The Cardigans' Lovefool showed the Australian's versatility
In a tweet: Micky Green brought some Australian sunshine to the stage even as the rain fell.

De Va Voi
Highlights:
The London group faced the toughest assignment of the festival as they took to the stage just as the heavens opened but their perseverance and high energy set soon had people thronging to the Grande Scène..Indeed their mix of Jewish music and instruments, electronica and soul singing ensured a lively set...They particularly shone when main vocalist Bridgette Amofah too to the mic with Every Time and Long Way from Home highlights.
In a tweet: A triumph against the elements for that rarest of bands, one with a sound truly all their own.

Out and About

Yodelice brought a huge crowd to the Scène du Lac with his dark modern pop rock. Later, Asteroids Galaxy Tour's polished party pop had another large crowd dancing along as the impish Mette Lindberg cut a striking figure in a sparkling silver jacket, with Around the Bend and The Sun Ain't Shining No More among the highlights of their set. Zurich's Lea Lu was another inspired pick for the Scène de la Plage. Closing that stage was the gifted Norwegian singer-songwriter Thomas Dybdahl, whose mellow vocals and evocative guitar-playing were lapped up by a very appreciative audience.
