Texas return to headline Caribana opening night
Scottish superstars mark return by headlining the Grand Scène on the opening night of the 21st edition of the Caribana festival.
The Caribana Festival is delighted to announced that Texas will headline the opening night of the 21st edition of the festival.
The Scottish rockers, playing their first concerts this summer since 2005, will play the Grande Scène on Wednesday 8 June 2011.
Emboldened by the recovery from serious illness of guitarist Ally McErlaine and the solo success of singer Sharleen Spiteri, Texas return to Switzerland to kick off the festival and their own return to the live scene.
Always firm favourites here, Texas have had 5 top 10 albums in Switzerland and have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. They have recorded such classic cuts as I Don't Want a Lover, Say What You Want, Black Eyed Boy and Summer Son.
Texas have also built a reputation as spectacular live performers having famously headlined Glastonbury in 1999. Sharleen Spiteri said: "The best thing about reconvening Texas is that there’s no baggage. We made every decision with our heads held high: we could have cashed in big time in so many ways and we didn't. For me, when I look back there’s nothing that makes me go ‘ugh’. I’m really proud of what we’ve done and I know I’m going to be prouder still of what we’re going to do.”
